Welcome to my website

I am a British bluegrass banjo player and vocalist, focusing mainly on the Bluegrass style. I play with my regular band, The Dude Coopers, and with Joe Tozer as a duo "Howard Burton & Joe Tozer", plus I also guest in bands and diversify into other musical forms.

24.08.11 - Come and see myself and Joe Tozer perform with guest band Acaysha at Olives in Norwich on September 24th. It will be a great night of Americana and Bluegrass music with a sprinkling of roots and folk music. A true acoustic fusion, just as the poster says!

07.08.11 - Myself and Joe Tozer just spent a fantastic weekend at the Surrey Mini Bluegrass Festival. It’s always a great place to play with a lot of support from the surrounding community as well as the loyal bluegrass and acoustic music fans too. Hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll be posting some video of the event. Be sure and put it in your calendar for next year if you haven’t been. Also this year at the Didmarton Bluegrass festival I will be teaching banjo in the tuition tent. So if you’re interested to find out more about the banjo or would like to have a lesson be sure to sign up. All the information on how to do that will be posted soon on the BBMA and Didmarton web sites or you can sign up when you arrive. See you there…………………….

12.06.11 - Exciting times ahead. I'm playing with Joe Tozer Saturday 19th June supporting The Carrivick Sisiters at The Acoustic Cafe in Upper Sheringham which we are really looking forward to. Then on Sunday 19th we play Welborne Arts Festival. The following weekend I'm with The Dude Coopers at The East Anglian Bluegrass festival in Cambridgeshire. It would be great to see friends old and new, so come along to one of the shows and say hello or "are ya ore right" as we say in deepest Norfolk!

16.05.11 - Just come back from the Orwell Bluegrass festival in Suffolk. The promised rain came to nothing and the campground and main stage marquee were packed. The Dude Coopers had the privilege of opening the festival on friday night to a very enthusiastic audience. We all had a great time. If you've not been its a fantastic festival to add to your calendar for next year. Come and see us at The East Anglian Bluegrass festival in June, it looks to be another cracker this year!

11.04.11 - Myself and Joe Tozer had a great time yesterday playing live on radio Wayland on their Sunday evening radio program "Sunday Folk club" with presenters David and Jane. We played a set live on radio in the "live lounge" followed by an interview with some of our favourite choice of music intermixed. It was broadcast over the internet and locally in the Watton area of Norfolk, Uk. I hope to have some snippets of the show on our website soon, but do take a listen to the show, it's a great mix of music.

13.02.11 - March looks to be quite a busy month for my duo band, "Howard Burton & Joe Tozer". We have some gigs in Norwich including the Cinema City bar, and Olives cafe, and also we have been invited to perform on Radio Waylands Folk show in early April. Be sure and check out my schedule page for details. Also other exciting news for Joe, as he has been awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Sore Fingers Summer school for Bluegrass and associated music's.

22.12.10 - Be sure and check out my video page for footage of myself and Joe Tozer, and more videos on our dedicated website too!

20.12.10 - It's not often that a Bluegrass event occurs during the winter months, but Special Consensus from the USA will be touring in January 2011. One of there stops is at Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire, January 22nd, where they will be giving workshops in their respective instruments during the day, followed by an evening concert with support from Wet Paint, and yours truly with Joe Tozer! It's a fantastic event and worth your support if you can make it. Some great jams to had as well. I hope to see you there and we'll pick a few!

09.12.10 - Dates are coming in fast for 2011. Check out the schedule page of my website for myself and Joe Tozer for where and when we are playing.

14.11.10 - I have some exciting news to report. I have recently formed a musical partnership with a young and extremely talented musician, Joe Tozer. We have already played a few dates in 2010 and are looking forward to a busy 2011. This is a slight branch off from my usual Bluegrass idiom to include music and songs in the Americana and folk traditions, both modern and traditional. While I continue to front The Dude Coopers, this is an enlivening challenge and a chance for me to explore my other musical interest on the banjo with Joe. Check out our new website for details and bookings.

12.09.10 - A lots been happening this summer so far. After the East Anglian Bluegrass I spent another enjoyable weekend at The North Wales Bluegrass festival with The Dude Coopers.
Also, I was invited back to The Surrey Mini Bluegrass Festival again in August and had a lot of fun playing with some great musicians and singers. The "Howard Burton" band consisted of Bob Winquist, Gary and Cheryl Paine and Super guitarist, Chris Morton. For the Sunday set I formed a duo with up and coming super musician Joe Tozer, who doubled on mandolin and guitar. Be sure to check out the gallery for new photos.
The last stop of the summer was The Didmarton Bluegrass Festival and back with The Dude Coopers again for a rocking set. I also participated in the banjo seminar which is always good to be part of.

29.06.10 - Just had a great weekend with The Dude Coopers at the East Anglian Bluegrass Festival in Cambridgeshire. Fantastic weather, great picking, and The Dude Coopers went down pretty well too! Check out the gallery for new pictures.

22.05.2010 - It's been a while since my last entry, sorry everybody! I've been concentrating on my band, The Dude Coopers. We played again at The Cider Shed on May 16th, and it's really becoming a great venue for us. Over the coming months I'll be playing with The Dude Coopers at several new venues here in Norwich, plus playing at the summer Bluegrass festivals in the Uk. Be sure to check out the gigs section of The Dude Coopers web site for all up and coming events and gigs. Check out my gallery too!

21.02.2010 - I just want to say how overwhelmed I was at the turn out to my gig with The Dude Coopers at The Cider Shed today. The venue was absolutely packed. It was great to see so many friends and followers of the Dude Coppers, I’m only sorry I didn’t get the chance to speak to you all. Here’s to next time!

23.01.2010 - I’m looking forward to a great year of music in 2010. The Dude Coopers are playing at several of the big Bluegrass Festivals in the Uk, and are hard at work on some new songs, so look out for those when you see us next. Also come and see us at The Cider Shed in Norwich, it’s a great venue, serving real ale for the beer connoisseur, and also great music too!

19.12.09 - Great news! The Dude Coopers have been invited back to play at The Cider Shed in Norwich on Sunday February 21st 2010. Check out our photos from our last gig there on The Dude Coopers website.

14.12.09 - I had a great gig with The Dude Coopers at The Cider Shed in Norwich on 13th December. It is a hub for fantastic acoustic music in East Anglia and a very welcoming crowd. It was good to see so many friends supporting me and the band. We should be back there in a couple of months, so look out for us!

26.10.09 - I've just come back from teaching banjo at the Sore Fingers October weekend event in the Uk. I had a rewarding time teaching, and a great bunch of students to instruct. It really is a great event and I would recommend it to anyone. I hope to get invited back to teach again in the future.

12.09.2009 - The OffChords have changed their name to "The Dude Coopers". We have felt for a while that the band name was not quite right, so we decided to change it. There's quite a story behind our new name, so visit The Dude Coopers web site for all the details!

07.09.2009 - Just got back from a great weekend at the Didmarton Bluegrass festival. As ever the festival was highly organised and very well run. The head line act Mountain Heart, from the USA were very impressive. The Dude Coopers had the weekend off, but the whole band was there soaking up the atmosphere, or is something else...................................

10.08.2009 - I've recently added some videos of The Dude Coopers playing at the North Wales Bluegrass Festival. There's more on The Dude Coopers website too, so be sure and check them out.

08.08.2009 - Welcome to my all new website. I have changed the look of my site quite radically, and added a few new elements too. If something doesn't work, be sure and let me know!
